RHP receives preservation award from New York State
A 2026 New York State Historic Preservation Award was awarded to the Historical Society of the Town of Chester for their outstanding work preserving and interpreting Itzuso Sumy’s photographic legacy and advancing the understanding of Chester’s history.
RHP was engaged to write the Chestertown Historic District Boundary Increase nomination that utilized the fantastic photographs from Mr. Sumy which were digitized by the Historical Society.
It’s always rewarding to contribute, even in a supporting role, to projects that strengthen how communities connect with their past. Credit goes to the many people whose dedication made this work possible, and to my partner Maryam Rabi, who co-authored the nomination.

RHP is expanding its services into the Sunshine State!
!As part of this expansion, RHP is honored to serve as a sponsor of this year’s Florida Trust for Historic Preservation Conference, where the organization will once again announce its annual “11 to Save” list. The program is designed to increase public awareness of historic places across Florida that face urgent preservation challenges while empowering local preservationists and organizations working to protect the state’s rich and diverse heritage.
RHP’s work in Florida will begin with a historic resources survey of Progress Village, a remarkable mid-twentieth-century community near Tampa founded as one of the first planned suburban developments for African Americans in the region. The neighborhood represents an important chapter in Florida’s civil rights and community planning history, and we are honored to assist with documenting and supporting preservation efforts there.
To learn more about the history and significance of Progress Village, we encourage you to read this excellent article from WUSF:

Through 2026, we hope to provide a space to reflect on historic preservation work, including projects in progress, lessons learned, research questions, and the realities of working across architecture, history, policy, and community engagement.
The format will be informal and concise, intended to make complex preservation work more transparent and accessible.
If you’re interested in preservation planning, National Register work, adaptive reuse, or the broader cultural and professional context around saving historic places, we would be glad to have you follow along.

In the United States, she works with Roblee Historic Preservation on several significant projects across New York State. She contributed to the New York Statewide Certified Local Government Handbook, a comprehensive regulatory guide assisting municipalities in navigating preservation laws and procedures. She also supported preservation planning and fundraising for the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saint Paul, and prepared detailed architectural drawings and a restoration plan for the Peleg White House, balancing historical integrity with contemporary functionality.
In Pakistan, Maryam has worked with UNESCO and ARS Progetti SPA on the Conservation Management and Master Plan for the Lahore Museum and its Landscape, developing sustainable preservation strategies, enhancing public access, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in line with international curatorial standards.
